CARTER JOHN (1)has been a beaten favourite in his last couple of starts off a pair of wide gates, and though out of the money, he has not been far off the top 4. He gets a slightly better draw this time and has a big chance to set the record straight. Follow your money. DUJARDIN (12) peaked on her run late fresh up at New Plymouth, which was a touch surprising considering that she had won a trial not long before that effort. She is straight up to a mile, and can make amends. STARPELLO (2) did not have much luck at Otaki 10 days ago, and his second prior to that is the guide to use. A wet track would help him, and he is worth another chance. SURROUND SOUND (5) ran on from well back when resuming and finished second by a length. He may have to go back again from a wide gate, but strips fitter, and another good effort can be expected. CRICKET (11) finished third as the favourite at Tauherenikau last time out, and is still improving. She cops a tougher gate, but should still be included.
