WAVERLEY (6) gets top billing after a luckless first-up fourth in a BM62 at Gold Coast, where he began slowly and was held up near the 400m before closing off strongly. He's won at the mile and handles wet ground, so the rise to this trip looks a positive second-up. CASTAWAY (3) is the obvious danger after justifying favouritism here three weeks ago when making a mess of his maiden rivals. Thompson sticks from a good draw and the rise in trip shouldn't bother. FIFTH FORCE (4) has to rebound from a plain run at Ipswich, yet his previous CL3 third at this venue had merit after he was held up, and his distance record is strong. Can bounce back on the quick turnaround. BOSSIRI (12) closed well for third here two weeks ago in CL1 company. Worth respecting but she's yet to prove useful on rain affected going. Treading cautiously.

This is harder company than that country run, and his Toowoomba eighth before it came when unwanted in the market after beginning awkwardly. The wet record is a genuine plus, but the wide barrier and rise in overall depth make him more of a rough each-way hope. Keeping safe for a minor spot.

The step to 1600m is the clear new test, as he has not raced at around this distance before, but barrier 3 should let him use the same on-speed pattern. The mile is new, but the upside is clear.
