POOR OL' JOHNY RAY (3) can make a bright start for the new stable, having closed the previous campaign with consecutive thirds at Pakenham Synthetic and Moe. Has trialled well in readiness and the mile looks a good kickoff for him with a handful of gear changes applied. KINDRED (7) has come through two good thirds, stepping back from a Doomben maiden. Should be at her top now and this looks her best chance yet. ZEPHYR SONG (8) was only even when fifth at Doomben last time, yet her earlier half-length second reads well enough for this and she remains a strong chance if she sees out the mile. SPIRIT OF TORQUE (9) had excuses when wide at Doomben after a solid second here two back. Peaking now and gets Thompson. DARK MARTIAN (5) has more scope to improve than others and is drawn cosy. Not taking lightly.
