Sunshine Coast Race 1 - Jb Is A Legend Mdn Hcp
BUTTERCUP (7) has found the maiden win elusive but profiles strongly second-up after a strong chase into the placing when resuming at Eagle Farm in mid-week company. With improvement to come and an inside draw she's clearly the one to beat. EMPHATIQUE (11) is the main danger after going under narrowly at Beaudesert despite a slow start and difficulty getting clear, with her Doomben fourth before that also reading well. MAGIC INVADER (4) is hard to dismiss on consistency, although his long maiden record and wide alley tempers the win confidence slightly. TERRAX (5) resumes. Didn't show much in his only run last time in but his form back in Victoria reads well, and Thompson's booking keeps him firmly in calculations.

Debuts with blinkers on and did show some trial ability when second at Doomben over 1000m, beaten 0.84 lengths. That trial was some time back, so race-day sharpness has to be taken on trust, and the stable's small debut sample is yet to produce a placegetter. Place claims if he is forward enough.

Starts his career after two trials, winning at Warwick before a solid second at Toowoomba Inner Track a few weeks ago. The blinkers go on first time and Karl Zechner is a capable booking, although he still has to carry 60kg on debut. A genuine place prospect on debut.

Has placed at all four runs this season and was again honest when third at Gold Coast last start, beaten a length and a half after racing just off the lead as favourite. The run prior produced a sound second to Cardonette despite an awkward start. The win record is the query, but recent form keeps him right in it.

Returns from a three-month break after being safely held when fifth at this venue, beaten four and a half lengths after travelling into it on soft ground. His better reference from last campaign was a close Mornington third in a 3yo+ Maiden, where he was beaten just over half a length as favourite. His close Mornington placing makes him a live fresh chance.

Resumed with a strong third at Eagle Farm in mid-week company, beaten just over a length after travelling well and only being run down late. This is an easier assignment, and her record around 1000m is compelling for a maiden, with five placings from five attempts. Drops from mid-week company and looks the one to beat.

Returns from a lengthy spell, having not raced for over a year since finishing third in a 2yo Maiden at Rockhampton, beaten four and a half lengths after leading. She had earlier run second at Mackay on debut, so the basic race form is respectable, but the absence is significant. Early form was sound, but the long layoff makes her hard to trust.

Finished seventh behind Final Crusade at Eagle Farm first-up, beaten five and a half lengths after being unwanted in the market, and Buttercup had his measure there. He was also safely held at Terang at the end of his previous campaign, despite sitting handy enough to be more competitive. Minor-money case only.

Returns from a five-week freshening after finishing eighth on debut at this track, beaten just under four lengths. She jumped awkwardly, then tracked the lead before battling from the turn, so there was merit in the market respect but not enough finish late. Trial win gives some hope, but she must finish off better.
