PUNXSUTAWNEY PHIL (4) nice colt, undefeated in two starts. Sat off the speed in the small field and rounded them up with ease in fast time over 1150m at Illawarra Grange. Will handle the extra trip and class rise with Lloyd retaining the ride. PHILLIP ISLAND (1) comes here fifth up with Roper's 1.5kg claim. Just over three weeks between runs when he knocked up late with the 60kg to finish second over 1200m at Warwick Farm. Has the speed to get across from the draw and the addition of winkers will help his cause. THE THORNCASTER (10) got the Maiden win out of the way in good style two back, then went back from the draw and failed to close off when ninth over 1200m at Warwick Farm. Expect to see a more positive ride from the good barrier. Each way. PORTICO (8) has needed the two runs this time in to bring him to his top and should handle the jump in trip. The chances don't end there.
