Randwick Race 7 - The Russell Balding Stakes (G2)

HEADWALL (8) loomed strongly out wide but peaked on the run with a courageous fourth in the G1 The Everest over 1200m at this track. Drops in weight and grade and look for him launching late at his first attempt at the 1300m. NINJA (6) was a month between runs with a tenacious on-speed fifth in the G1 The Everest. Should be at his top fourth up and his unbeaten record at the trip keeps him right in contention. CABALLUS (3) drifted back from the awkward draw and like the way he warmed up late with a respectable seventh in the G1 The Everest. Can make good use of the rails draw and take a hand in the finish. JIMMYSSTAR (1) shuffled back to last and never looked a winning prospect when sixth in the G1 The Everest. Won this race last year by a big space from a low gate. Awkward draw today and will need plenty of luck. GRAFTERBURNERS (5) dominant G2 Sydney Stakes winner over 1200m at this course who faces a daunting prospect from the wide barrier. Much stronger race and has minor claims.
