PENSEE (9) has the strongest recent profile after winning over 1400m at Mizusawa as a dominant odds-on favourite, and his previous third was only a long neck off Grand Croix. The return to 1000m is the one question, with just one placing from his two listed starts at the distance, but his consistency and proven partnership with Toshiki Yamamoto make him the horse to beat. CHIHAYABURU RUN (2) won as a prohibitive favourite over 850m at Mizusawa and also owns a track-and-distance win, so she is the immediate danger if she carries that sharpness to 1000m. NORTH PRIMA (10) was decisive beating MAKOTO DAITOREN by four lengths last start and has already put a gap on several rivals engaged again.
