THE MAGPIE (3) won over 2600m at Marseille-Borely before finishing second in this grade at Compiegne. Major player. PURPLE BAY (4) has filled the runner-up spot on four of eight starts and was defeated by a nose contesting 2950m most recently. Returning to this distance is a positive. RUSAIR FAL (6) came home only 2L behind the just mentioned when fourth attempting this trip two runs back. His subsequent 3000m seventh was better than the result suggests. Cannot be discounted.
