Doomben Race 7 - Century Pools (Bm70)

HEADHUNTER (11) doesn't win out of turn but has been knocking on the door throughout this prep and possesses a sharp turn of foot. His last win came over this track and trip back in January. If he's not too far off them at the turn, he can finish over the top. SHE MOVES TOO (5) is another get-back runner that can finish hard and fast. Should be hitting her straps fourth-up and if the gap appears from the low draw, she can burst through and score. CELESTIAL BLAZE (6) has a lot more tactical speed than those two and should be able to spear across from his middle draw to be handy. Is yet to prove himself at the mile, but if he gets an easy time of it in front he can go on with the job. TORO STRIKE (9) has been in good touch in his last three and gets an identical set-up, though he will need Thompson on top of his game from out there. DON'TCHA THINK (7) will likely inject a bit of speed into the race and deserves consideration on recent efforts.

Comes off a determined Class 4 win at Sunshine Coast, where he sat just off the lead and drove hard to beat Galpin by a nose at big odds. He had earlier been fourth in a Class 5 at the same venue, beaten three and a half lengths after laying in around the home turn. The harder meeting, wide barrier and first attempt around 1615m all ask more, so further improvement is required despite the last-start result. Looks up against it this time.

Went within a nose of winning an Open at Warwick last start, making a wide run from the rear and picking up strongly behind Capital Asset. That followed a sound Open third at Gold Coast on soft ground, so the recent form has substance. He drops from Open grade but rises from country company to a harder meeting, and at nine years of age still has to convert that consistency against sharper BM70 opposition. Not this time.
