Fleet-footed mare MARKWELL MUSIC (5) has led for home at both runs this prep but failed to go on with the job. Drops back in trip today and with the race fitness and experience edge on the key rivals she looks tough to beat. COMME CI COMME CA (1) is back from a 20-week spell and is now in the local David Matts stable. Raced three times in the maiden prep in Victoria and was high in the betting for two of those runs but did nothing. Gets a host of gear changes which might bring the best out of this four-year-old. NUTCRACKER QUEEN (6) is a first starter trained on the track by Donna Traecey. Won a trial here on 4 December so she looks to have ability. Big chance to make an immediate impact. LA REGINA (7) is another locally trained galloper on debut. Trialled well here recently and from gate one should be given every chance. Market watch on POMPEII JEWEL (8) who lines up for the first time on the back of two moderate trials.
