MAPLETON HILL (3) earns top billing after closing to within two and a half lengths in a BM64 at this track last week at big odds, and the drop into Mdn company looks the clearest class edge in the race. He was second to Vatican Rose here the start prior and now draws barrier 1 with Lek Maloney's 1.5kg claim for a strong local stable. UPCOMING SEASON (6) also comes through that BM64, and while last of eight, he was slow to begin and is fitter third-up; the class drop gives him a path back into the contest, though MAPLETON HILL clearly has the stronger current line. DENUTO (1) has been well held in BM58 and BM54 company, but he too eases in grade and Jessica Booth's 2kg claim helps his place case if the return to 1200m sparks more. STARTYOURENGINE (4) had excuses when held up first-up and had earlier run second in Class 2 grade at this track, so he is the knockout chance if he sharpens second-up.
