HORATIUS SPECULO (1) was a strong winner of his heat last start when getting home by 2.2 metres as a hot favourite. That took his record at this venue to four from seven and was his second success from just three tries at this distance. The one to beat. PARDOE PLUGGA (5) began badly when midfield in his heat so he'll need to get it right but he was good when he went close from a 20m handicap two back at Carrick. Starts from the front mark this time and owns a good record at this distance. THE SHALLOWS (12) did a good job to chase HORATIUS SPECULO for second in the heats and was a winner over 2579m three back at Hobart. Can be in the finish again. MAEBEE (8) is honest and worth including having only once missed the top-three in his last eight starts, winning twice.
