Star local and series favourite GUS NZ (2) tuned up with an easy win at this circuit and distance a fortnight ago, working to the front before cruising home by 14m. Strikes at 50 per cent when second-up so should be improved and he has enjoyed a huge last eight months, highlighted by the Dominion Trot and NZ FFA double across the Tasman last year. Clearly the one to beat. This a tougher test for LOVEMETO NZ (3) but it is hard to knock his consistency in Victoria where he has put together a string of wins and placings. Drew deep and raced wide before finding the front and toughing out a Melton win last start. The good draw can see him competitive. KEAYANG STUKA (8) placed in the 2024 final of this series and comes in with strong form, winning last time at Melton. Has a decent record at this distance and draws for an early trail behind IM BOBBY (1) who has been solid since a win from the second line three back at Melton. He can play a role from the ace draw.
